Ladakh is one place in India which remains on almost every travellers’ bucket list and is a dream destination which will remain etched in his mind even years after the trip is over!
Ladakh is known as the region of mountain passes, a piece of broken moon land- a perfect place to witness the unmatched beauty of Nature. Ladakh is the highest plateau lying at an altitude of 9, 800 ft. in the north-east region, of India. It spans the Great Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges and the upper Indus River Valley. The district bordered Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the west and China in the north and Eastern part and Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pradesh in the South east. Ladakh region is bifurcated in Kargil and Leh districts. Kargil lies at an altitude of 2750m and Leh at 3505m. The largest town in Ladakh is Leh. Ladakh’s ethnic composition consisted of Mongoloid and a mixed Indo-Aryan population of Mons and Dards. It is sometimes called little Tibet due to strong cultural and geographical similarities with Tibet. Ladakh is also known as a mysterious Land which has never ceased its beauty and nature like its extreme deserts, highest peaks, snow capped mountains, flowing rivers, blue waters, freezing winds, glacier and sand dunes. Ladakh is a region of India which is totally isolated from the modern world. The architecture in Ladakh exhibits strong and deep influences from Tibet and India which shows great regional diversity. The architecture of Ladakh can be seen in the various monasteries and Gompas which are enchanting. Ladakh is a spiritual and religious place. In short we can say that Ladakh’s majestic and raw beauty is one which captivates every tourist visiting this place while also leaving them longing for more!!!
